Ridley Scott Says He’s Working on 20th Century Fox’s New Alien Movie – IGN
Director and producer Ridley Scott has revealed he is working on a new Alien movie for 20th Century Studios, thanks to the success of Alien: Romulus. And it’s probably Romulus 2.
An interview with THR reports that Scott casually dropped this news that this was happening with absolutely no further details. However, we got the news just a week ago that 20th Century Studios was working on an Alien: Romulus 2 idea with Fede Álvarez returning to direct from the first Romulus, so it seems almost certain these films are one and the same.
Earlier in the interview, Scott notes that he’s frustrated with his lack of ownership of both the Alien and Blade Runner franchises over the years, which he blames on some of his company’s former management.
“I should have locked them up, as [Steven] Spielberg did with Jurassic, and everything he does, and James Cameron has done with what he has,” he said. “I resurrected a dead Alien [franchise] with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and we should have rejoined the ownership right then, and we didn’t, because someone was careless.”
Indeed, the Alien films have been somewhat all over the place after Scott initially kicked it off directing Alien back in 1979. Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection all proceeded without him, though he’s since become involved again on more recent films such as Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and now Alien: Romulus.
Alien: Romulus, which Scott produced, released on August 12, 2024 to a $350 million global box office. It’s getting an official VHS release (as well as more modern physical and digital media). We gave it an 8/10 in our review, saying its “back-to-basics approach to blockbuster horror boils everything fans love about the tonally-fluid franchise into one brutal, nerve-wracking experience.”
