Jennifer Lopez appeared bothered after an interviewer brought up her age.

“Listen, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena. I can’t believe that 30 years we do the retrospective of this and you will be 60 by then,” Variety’s Senior Awards Editor, Clayton Davis, said on Sunday, December 15, in a video obtained by TMZ.

Lopez, 55, interjected to add, “Wow,” as Davis continued to comment on her age, “which is getting up there” according to the reporter. Lopez nodded at the remark, replying, “I am.”

The comment received laughter — and some confusion — from the audience, with one person asking, “Did he really just say that?”

Davis continued the conversation by applauding Lopez for “one of your best performances” yet in Unstoppable, which was released in September.

“It’s funny you think that I’m getting up there,” Lopez began, while Davis interjected to clarify that his comment was a “joke.” Lopez appeared unfazed by the remark, and instead chose to praise the audience.

“It’s because I want to say thank you, you guys. Because we’ve been doing this a long time together. Been doing it a long time and you guys have been here with me,” Lopez said. “Today, I was singing some new songs and I went back and sang ‘If You Had My Love,’ which is my first song, 1999. It’s that thing, of like, what a journey this has been.”

“I honestly feel that the best is yet to come,” she continued. “I honestly feel that my creativity and who I am as an artist — like you said, I also feel that this for me, was another kind of level for me of going deeper into who I am as a person, as an artist.”

Lopez noted that “these types of roles change you, in a way, when you allow them to.” She explained, “Because they come to you at times in your life when you need them, and they help you grow and they heal you in a way.”

“And if you can kind of let yourself be vulnerable enough and real enough to show you flaws and to really expose yourself in a way, as an artist, that is a gift that you always want,” she continued. “You want to have that.”

Lopez explained that it’s important to know people experience the same life moments, and offer advice on how they got through the time.

“For me, that’s what my life is about,” she said. “Making things that are beautiful and entertaining, but also let people know that love is what matters and that you’re not alone. That we’re all in this together.”
