Angelina Jolie, 49, and Outsiders’ Jason Schmidt, 23, Are Not Dating
Angelina Jolie and Jason Schmidt are keeping it strictly professional.
A source confirmed to Us Weekly exclusively that they are “just colleagues,” despite a recent report that says otherwise. Schmidt, 23, stars as Sodapop Curtis in The Outsiders on Broadway, which is produced by Jolie, 49.
The actress has appeared to form a close bond with most of The Outsiders cast after producing the stage show with the help of her 16-year-old daughter Vivienne. The mother-daughter duo even shared the Tony Award in the Best Musical category for their work on the show this past June.
Schmidt, for his part, made his Broadway debut as the beloved character (played by Rob Lowe in the 1983 Outsiders movie) in April and has been performing eight times a week ever since.
“Literally, it’s hard,” he told Teen Vogue in an interview last month. “With the Broadway schedule and only having that one day off, the exhaustion of it all can be a lot.”
The actor’s biggest struggle thus far has been finding the time to “actually hang out with people” after a show.
“It can be so much easier to just go home, nap, watch a movie, or write some music,” he said. “But then I have to be like, ‘OK, I’m going to go crazy in a different way if I don’t see friends, go on dates, things like that.’”
However, the New York City nightlife has not yet been explored by Schmidt.
“My experience so far with it has been getting off the train after a show,” he joked to Teen Vogue.
Schmidt isn’t the only man Jolie has been romantically linked to lately. She also sparked rumors with British rapper Akala (who has a partner); a separate insider confirmed to Us that Jolie is “close friends” with Akala’s girlfriend Chanelle Newman and “they all work together.”
“Angelina remains focused on her family and is not dating at this time,” the insider said earlier this month.
Things are a little different for her most famous ex, however: Brad Pitt and actress Ines de Ramon have been dating for two years and recently made their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival.
