Chris Jones unpacked the strong emotions he felt after the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC Championship win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 26.
“Pure excitement. Joy. Thinking about this year and everything we had to go through, the obstacles, the adversity we faced along the way to get here and just to soak it all in,” the 31-year-old defensive tackle said in a post-game press conference on Sunday.
Jones had been spotted crying on the sidelines and embracing his teammates following the Chiefs win, per footage shared by the NFL on social media.
The Chiefs defeated the Bills 32-29 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday, securing their spot in Super Bowl 2025. The Chiefs will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9. (The Eagles, for their part, advanced to Super Bowl LIX after their victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game earlier on Sunday.)
If the Chiefs are able to take home the win in February, they will be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. “All we wanted was the opportunity to get there and we’re there,” Jones told reporters about a possible three-peat for the Super Bowl. “We gotta close the deal.”
Jones also noted that the Chiefs were prepared for a “close game situation” going into their match against the Bills.

“You look at the games we had, then we had like six or seven games where there was one possession — we could continue to build off of that throughout the year,” he explained. “You know, these games are very familiar with [sic] us. We’re used to being in these types of situations, so we feel very calm, we feel very at peace with what we’re running, the speed of it, the pace of it and the play calling.”
While there will be time to celebrate this victory, Jones made it clear that the Chiefs still have work to do as they prepare for their upcoming game against the Eagles.
“It’s a lot of obstacles we had to face to get here,” Jones continued. “You got to appreciate that aspect of it. I appreciate how tonight turned out, but we also got one more game ahead of us — the important one.”
He added, “So, you got 24 hours to sit on it, have a nice drink or something, whatever you choose to do with yourself, and then we got two weeks to prepare for Philadelphia.”
